The History and Lore of the Shamrock
Three is Ireland's lucky number so most shamrocks are lucky! Everything good in Ireland comes in threes.   The shamrock is a fragile little plant also referred to as Dutch clover or wood sorrel. The shamrock was used as a symbol by the Irish volunteers in the 1770's. Legends say St. Patrick plucked a shamrock that was said to have mystic powers. It remains Ireland's most famous plant, seamrog, which means summer plant. The shamrock is also Ireland's national emblem.
